The Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region is located in one of the dominant features of the town of Kutná Hora – in the baroque complex of the Jesuit College. It was built in the years 1667-1700 and involved the important Jesuit builder Domenico Orsi. The whole complex was extensively renovated eight years ago. The architectural design is the work of the M1 architects studio, which collaborated with MgA on the implementation. Bára Zachovalová, designer of the original woven carpets.

Graphic design of piece rugs

The graphic design itself and subsequent sampling is one of the most demanding parts of the whole process, at the end of which the finished carpets are installed in the interior. Bára Zachovalová created seemingly mirror-image repeating patterns, which, on closer inspection, show a lot of small differences – for example, a different shade of colour or a slightly different shape.

The whole pattern thus looks very dynamic and, together with the strong colours, contributes to the unique appearance of the carpets.

Carpet production in Spain

We had the carpets made according to graphic designs by our Spanish supplier, which is engaged in the custom production of axminster carpets and was willing to meet all the requirements of the investor. In cooperation with the designer, the technical details and colours of the individual yarns were fine-tuned within a few weeks so that they corresponded as closely as possible to the proposed plan. Only then in the factory could they start the production of a total of 6 pieces – two squares, three rectangles and one circle.

Woven axminster carpets

Woven axminster carpets are characterised by high quality – comfort, durability and long life. When designing them, the choice of patterns and colours is almost unlimited, while woven patterns are always very clear and realistic. They are most often used in hotels and restaurants, but the possibilities of their use are, as this contract shows, much broader.
